Our customer, a pioneer in the development of fundamentally new technologies in the fields of genetic analysis and proteomics, commissioned KineticaRT to develop control hardware and software for their prototype fast Genome Sequencer.
This customer chose KineticaRT because of our proven ability to provide innovative and reliable solutions for complex scientific and engineering applications.
The system includes the following:
- Sample transportation systems (linear and rotary)
- A number of 3 axis robots manipulating samples and pipettes
- A variable speed centrifuge
- Management of 8 reagent reservoirs
- Complex and accurate fluid handling
- Precise sample heating and cooling
- A high resolution imaging and analysis system
- User configurable operating and service protocols
- Reagent monitoring and management of replenishment
- graphical user interface with remote monitoring via intranet/internet
Key design requirements were:
- Over 6 gigabases in 24hrs
- 24hr unattended operation
- Remote system maintenance
- Automated sample handling and fluidic procedures
- Integrated sample tracking and LIMS compatibility
KineticaRT designed a controller comprising Beckhoff bus terminals, selected to meet the wide ranging interface requirement, and an embedded PC co-running Windows and the real-time programmable logic and motion control software TwinCAT.
The project success relied on KineticaRT’s strengths in understanding the requirements of customers from a wide range of technology areas and implementing solutions based on commercial off the shelf hardware (COTS) and professionally designed, implemented and tested software.
